Ramnicu Valcea mayor, sentenced to 3 years in jail

Mircia Gutau, mayor of Ramnicu Valcea, and Nicolae Dicu, former deputy mayor, were sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

The sentence is irrevocable. The time spent in preventive arrest will be deducted from that period. The judges have sentenced Mircia Gutau to three and a half years in prison for taking bribery. The same sentence was given for Nicolae Dicu, charged with being an accessory to bribery.

Mayor Gutau and deputy mayor Dicu were accused of taking a EUR 50,000 bribe from a businessman in April-July 2006 in order to issue a construction permit. The businessman subsequently denounced them.
