Bute to defend IBF title against Edison Miranda on April 17

Lucian Bute will defend for the fifth time his world IBF super-middleweight title, this time against Columbia’s Edison Miranda, InterBox announced in a communiqué. According to Stephan Larouche, Lucian Bute’s coach, ‘Mister KO’ has already started to prepare for the April 17 bout and will leave Quebec in order to go to a private training camp for a period of 6-8 weeks.

Edison Miranda ‘The Panther,’ aged 29, has won 33 bouts, 29 of them through KO. The Columbian lost four bouts in his career – against Germany’s Arthur Abraham twice, against Kelly Pavlik and Andre Ward. Likewise, Miranda is the only boxer that managed to defeat America’s Alen Green.

‘With the risk of repeating myself, the styles decide the bouts. Once again we will have an explosive bout that will offer the fans a good show. We showed patience in choosing the opponent. We received a lot of offers and we took enough time to study them. We want to offer our fans quality events and that is exactly what we’re going to do by bringing Miranda to Montreal,’ Jean Bedard, president of Groupe Sportscene, a company that manages InterBox, stated in a press communiqué.

‘I am taking the bout against Miranda seriously. He has gone on a rampage through the important names in this category. He is a redoubtable boxer and I will have to be vigilant during the whole game in order to be able to keep my belt,’ said Bute, IBF super-middleweight champion since October 19, 2007.

More details about the Bute vs. Miranda bout will be revealed during a press conference scheduled for next week.
