The volume of the turnover in the retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorbikes, gross series, dropped 10.3 per cent last year because of the decline of the sales of fuels in specialized shops and of the non-food and food products, according to INS data, Mediafax informs. Thus, in 2009, compared to 2008, the retail trade of fuels for motor vehicles in specialized shops declined by 19.7 per cent, that of non-food products by 9.6 per cent, while the sales of food, beverages ands tobacco decreased by 4.2 per cent, INS reports.
As an adjust series subject to the number of working days and seasonality, the volume of the turnover in the retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorbikes, decreased 10.4 per cent, as a result of the fall of the sales of fuels for motor vehicles in specialized shops by 19.1 per cent, of the sales of non-food products by 9.4 per cent, and of the sales of food, beverages and tobacco by 3.3 per cent. In December 2009 vs. November, the volume of the turnover in the retail trade increased 9.6 per cent as gross series, but dropped 5.6 per cent as adjusted series subject to number of working days and seasonality.
Eurostat: Romania, first in EU according to fall of retail in December
Romania ranks first in the European Union subject to the falling rate of retail trade volume in December 2009, 5.7 per cent, vs. November, the indicator dropping 0.12 per cent at the level of the community block, according to Eurostat data, Mediafax informs.
The fall from December represents the fourth monthly decline of the retail trade volume for Romania. Seven of the 19 states reviewed in the report of EU statistical bureau registered the decline of the indicator in December vs. November. The biggest falls are registered by Romania, Malta (5.6 per cent) and Portugal (2.8 per cent). The most significant rises of the retail trade volume are those of Austria (1.6 per cent), France (1.2 per cent), Spain, Slovenia and Slovakia (0.9 per cent).
