HCM Constanta to clash with Montpellier’s stars in CL today

Romanian title holder HCM Constanta has left for Montpellier yesterday morning, being scheduled to play against French title holder HB Montpellier today at 9.30 PM, ‘Gazeta Sporturilor’ informs. The game counts for round 7 of the Champions League’s Group A games. HCM Constanta’s players arrived in Bucharest on Monday evening after traveling by train. The snow disrupted their plans and the players did not take part in their evening training session.

French title holder HB Montpellier tops Group A with 5 wins and a single defeat. Montpellier lost its away game against HCM Constanta on October 8, 2009, score 33-37.

‘Montpellier will certainly want to exact revenge. What we want is to play well, to make them problems,’ executive director Nurhan Ali stated. Montpellier’s roster includes three players that won the European title a week ago in Vienna: goalkeeper Daouda Karaboue, playmaker Nikola Karabatic and wingman Michael Guigou. The game will be refereed by Slovakia’s Milan Sivak and Peter Dvorsky, with Marek Szajna (Poland) being EHF’s observer.

Also on Wednesday PAOK will play against Pick Szeged at 9 PM, with the game pitting Cehovski Medvedi against Valladolid, this round’s last group game, scheduled on Thursday at 6 PM.

Here is the Group A standings ahead of this round: 1. Montpellier – 10 points; 2. Valladolid – 9 points; 3. Cehovski – 8 points; 4. HCM Constanta – 6 points; 5. Szeged – 3 points; 6. PAOK – 0 points. The group’s top four teams qualify for the next stage.
