B1 TV buys ‘Evenimentul Zilei’ and ‘Capital’

‘Evenimentul Zilei’ daily and ‘Capital’ magazine, two publications edited by the Ringier Group, have been bought by the company that controls B1 TV channel. According to Mediafax, Ringier and B1 TV have confirmed the transaction yesterday, with the two publications’ employees also confirming that they have been notified about the change. The information about this transaction first appeared last week on the blog of the journalist Catalin Tolontan. ‘Evenimentul Zilei’ and B1 TV have collaborated for approximately half a year in order to create an infotainment TV program. The press wrote that B1 TV and Vox News TV channel, launched in November 2009, are controlled by the Paunescu brothers. ‘Evenimentul Zilei’ was re-launched on February 8, 2010, featuring a smaller format and a new editorial concept.

Although Ringier, “Capital” and “Evenimentul Zilei” agreed to keep the price of the transaction confidential, paginademedia.ro said B1TV paid 8 M euro for both publications. Journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu opines that selling “Evenimentul Zilei” to a media group close to PDL will rise the political pressure on the paper’s editorial staff.
