Countdown for PSD Congress. Buzau PNL, PDL branches seal ‘gentlemen’s agreement.’
PSD leader Mircea Geoana, assuming failure in presidential election, lobbies intensely throughout the country. Meanwhile, Nastase and his supporters continue to accuse him of attempts to boycott the February 20 congress. The idea of Adrian Nastase consulting local branches about the Congress location has irritated Geoana.
The sides within the Social-Democrat Party sharpen blades, trying to get support and, on the other hand, bringing accuses to the counter-candidates for the party leadership.
On Saturday, present at Ploiesti, Nastase resumed criticism against Geoana, mentioning the “backstage games which were and are still made” and saying that he “has suspicions about the manipulation of the vote at the Congress.”
Adrian Nastase was quick in his reaction and retorted to Geoana on his personal blog, considering statutory his approach and showing that 90 per cent of those whom he consulted were in favour of organizing the Congress at Parliament Palace, not at Romexpo as Geoana group wants.
Leaders of the opposition National Liberal Party’s Buzau branch sealed a “gentlemen’s agreement” for collaboration with county councilors of the ruling Democrat Liberal Party. The move was hailed by PDL vice-president Cezar Preda, who stressed the democrat-liberals will try to find ways to seal other local understandings with liberal branches.
Preda said PDL Buzau will help Liberals reclaim the County Council vice president post which is currently held by a Social Democrat. He added that PDL and PNL can offer political stability in the Buzau County Council so as to focus on the community’s problems.
Today PNL leaders are to meet to arrange last minute details about party’s national convention. Meanwhile, current leader Crin Antonescu is facing tough opposition from other liberal leaders as far as his stand regarding PDL is concerned.
