League 1: Dinamo wins hard-fought battle with U Craiova

Dinamo Bucharest won by 2-1 the home match with Universitatea Craiova, Sunday night, in the 18th leg of the football First League, but the management of the guests strongly objected to the referee’s performance.

The Craiova club management considers that Florin Costea was the victim of a fault committed in the penalty area by defender Cosmin Moti, but referee Augustus Constantin did not sanction the hosts by penalty, nor did he expel their player from the game. On the contrary, it sent off the Craiova team manager Silvian Cristescu, for protesting.

“Before the match, the referee came to me and wished me welcome to Romania. This was indeed a very proper welcome! 99 pc of those who saw the incident would have seen penalty and red card, and at 1-1 it would have been much easier for us to play. The moment you have such a discussion, you expect something different, but it happened the other way around. If he ordered a penalty shot and expelled the other player, we would have never lost the match. It is a very big shame that the match was not decided in the field,” said the coach of Universitatea Craiova, Mark Wotte, quoted by the club’s web site.

In his turn, the owner of U Craiova club, Adrian Mititelu strongly blamed referee Augustus Constantin for how he led the match: “What happened tonight confirms the tradition, suspicions, history. This is how things went on since the founding of this club, this is how they imposed themselves on most occasions. It is out of question, it was a clear case of penalty and red card. (…) This is no referee error, it’s an execution! I had no doubt it was a penalty, I still cannot believe,” Adrian Mititelu said.

In another match, Gaz Metan Medias ended at 0-0 the home match against FC Vaslui. Each team hit the post once – Bulgarian Milanov for the guests (27’) and Catalin Litu for Medias (58’).

After his team lost 0-2 against Astra Arad, the coach of Pandurii Tg. Jiu, Liviu Ciobotariu said he did not expect to lose “in such a manner” and criticized the attitude of his players. “It is not like me to seek excuses and they are irrelevant, I am very disappointed with my players’ attitude at this match.” Ciobotariu went on.

On Monday night, after this newspaper issue was closed, Unirea Urziceni played CFR Cluj at home, in the last match of this leg.
