Sun Plaza opens today

Sun Plaza commercial center benefited from a EUR 80 M investment for fitting out shops, to which 130 retailers contributed. The mall, located in Bucharest’s Piata Sudului area, will be opened today and 80 per cent of the spaces will be ready for shoppers, a developers press release reads.

“Besides the EUR 200 M invested in partnership with EMCT and Sparkassen Immobilien, retailers invested EUR 80 M in fitting out the spaces and commodities. It was a very big challenge for our partners to find this kind of money in a recession period,” Michael Richard, general manager of EMCT, developer of the project, declared yesterday, at the conference organized on the launching of the commercial center. He said 97 per cent of the rentable surface of 80,000 sq m has already been contracted by retailers, but only 80 per cent of spaces will be available at the opening. Of the total 130 spaces, 14 have not yet been rented. Some of the shops fitted out and due to open after February 25 are Debenhams, New Yorker, Hervis, Humanic, Koton, Starbucks, McDonalds, and Cinema City, the last being launched on April 28.

Sun Plaza is the biggest commercial center in Romania, with a built surface of 210,000 sq m, exceeding AFI Palace Cotroceni and Baneasa.
