New appointed director for “George Enescu” Philharmonic

“George Enescu” Philharmonic’s new general manager will be, as of March, Andrei Dimitriu. The news was yesterday announced by Culture Minister Kelemen Hunor. “We need a man who comes from outside the system, a poised man able to keep the balance in a cultural institution, at the same time an informed person, someone who knows what “George Enescu” Philharmonic means, the minister said, adding that, in his opinion, “the appointment of Andrei Dimitriu, with his managerial experience within national radio company, is guarantee that things will return on a normal path,” according to Agerpres. The appointment of Dimitriu, former general director of the Romanian Radio Society, comes after resignation and subsequent retiring of Philharmonic’s former manager Cristian Mandeal, further to a conflict with the orchestra. Dimitriu dsaid his appointment is “a quite special challenge.” “I suppose that my election is based on the experience gained at Radio Romania. I hope to be able to bring brightness to this foremost Romanian music,” Dimitriu said.
