New quarrel between PDL members Voinescu, Preda

Democrat Liberal Sever Voinescu and party MEP Cristian Preda engaged in a new war of words yesterday in connection with the former’s use of the term ‘basescianism.’ In a blog post yesterday, Preda slammed Voinescu for using such an “unfortunate phrase”. “The chosen phrases risk compromising [Voinescu’s] ideas in an environment that not only lacks humour, but also an elementary sense of irony,” Preda wrote.

He went on suggesting that the problem was more serious than this, underlining that “a credible succession ambition could be blocked by a critical mass of PDL members who, claiming their power from Traian Basescu himself, would argue we are actually living in the best possible world.” Preda’s comments referred to a recent conference in which Voinescu said many people joined the PDL because they were attracted by the “Basescu project.” In the context, he said the party should have “more basescianism.”

Reacting to Preda’s criticism, Voinescu said his party colleague was pursuing “media glory.” “I don’t know why Cristian Preda insists on fighting with me in public. I’ve been watching his race for media glory for a while and I’m surprised. If he has something to tell me, he knows where he can find me. It’s the second time he’s attacked me on his blog and the second time I choose to ignore him,” Voinescu said, quoted by Agerpres.
