Moldovan President talks about unification

If the Moldovans want to unite with Romania, ‘Ghimpu, Voronin, Putin or Clinton will not be able to stop them.’ The statement was made by Mihai Ghimpu, the interim president of the Republic of Moldova, during an interview for Free Europe in which he also explained there will be no snap elections and that Marian Lupu will become president this year. Over a week ago Mihai Ghimpu stated the Republic of Moldova will never unite with Romania. ‘The fact that we are speaking Romanian does not mean Moldova should unite with Romania. That is a bluff. There will never be unification with Romania,’ Ghimpu said, Hotnews informs. Ghimpu is also the Moldovan Parliament’s Speaker.

The interim president stated during Traian Basescu’s visit to Chisinau that ‘it has become clear that no union is possible with Romania.’ ‘Moldova is a sovereign state. The speculations about a union with Romania should be forgotten. Today we should focus more on our economy,’ Mihai Ghimpu stated.
