Investment in national economy was down 29.1 per cent to RON 62.507 bn last year compared to 2008, and most sums were directed towards retail, services and industry, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). The retail-service segment last year attracted 42.6 per cent of all investments and the industry attracted 41.8 per cent. At the opposite end, there were constructions, with 9.1, and agriculture, with only 2.8 per cent. Investment that resulted in new building works amounted to RON 33.371 bln, representing 53.4 per cent of the total last year, compared to 44.9 in 2008. Funds allocated for equipment and means of transport were RON 23.352 bn. Investment in national economy in Q4 suffered a year-on-year decrease of 39.9 per cent, down to RON 19.622 bln. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2008, in October through December 2009, the weight held by equipment (including means of transport) in total investment decreased by 14 per cent, down to 37.6 per cent. The weight of investment in new building works was up 11.7 per cent, to 51 per cent, while investment’s share in other expenditures went up 2.3 percentage points, reaching 11.4 per cent.
