Romania enters Eurovision contest with “Playing with Fire”

Eurovision’s national contest winners, Duo Paula Seling & Ovi will represent Romania in the international song contest due in May in Norway. They won the selection on Saturday with “Playing with Fire” a piece that has all the traits of a music hit. Second came singer Luminita Anghel& Tony Tomas with “Save their Lives.”

The Eurovision national contest jury nominated “Playing with Fire” for 12 points, while over 23,000 people voted in favor of the same song.

“I haven’t anticipated it, I have only hoped for it,” singer Paula Seling said while reacting to the results. “This is the consequence of a lot of work, and a chance that I intend to exploit a lot, I do believe it was high time I got to sing for my own country in Eurovision.” During the competition hosted by the public television, Paula Seling and Ovi both performed on two pianos, one of the instruments belonging to much regretted jazz performer Anca Parghel.

“I think it was a good-luck charm for us, we have felt her presence all through the light. I would like to thank Anca Parghel’s spirit for shining a light on us, “ Paula Seling said. In his turn, Ovi (Ovidiu Cernauteanu) said the result came after long months of working together. The national selection jury was made of well-known musicians and critics, from Laura Coroianu and Mihai Trastariu to Dida Dragan and Christian Raetscher. The first semifinals in this year’s Eurovision contest will kick off on May 25 and Romania will enter the second semi-final with Switzerland, Latvia, Georgia, Turkey, Ireland, Netherlands, Cyprus and Armenia. The final contest will be on May 29.
