Romania is launching a first public policy focusing on Roma women, through a EUR 18 M project co-financed by the European Social Fund. The three-year project is aimed at increasing Roma women’s social inclusion and improving their situation by developing equal chances mechanisms and structures, according to a press release quoted by Mediafax yesterday. “Such structures will include: a national network of Roma women in Romania, Regional Centres for Roma Women and expert programmes for Roma women’s social inclusion (this mechanism is a first in Romanian society,” the release says.

The project also aims at assuring equal access to education, training and employment, in view of creating an inclusive labour market.

The programme will be implemented by the Association of Roma Women in Romania in partnership with the Institute for the Study of National Minorities’ Problems, the National Agency for Roma and European Roma Rights Center – Budapest.
