Alain Prost to launch Dacia Duster in Romania on March 18

Duster, Dacia’s first SUV, will be officially launched in Romania on March 18 in the presence of former Formula 1 pilot Alain Prost, who drove the race version of the SUV in the Andros Trophy ice racing in France. Automobile Dacia officials said the new model will be delivered to Romanian dealers’ showrooms on April 15. However, registrations for the Duster started on March 2, the same day when the car was officially launched internationally, in Geneva. President Traian Basescu will be the first Duster SUV buyer in early April.

Duster, presented by the World Records Academy as the cheapest SUV in the world, will be available in Romania at prices ranging from EUR 10,500 to EUR 15,600, VAT included. Dacia has been receiving orders for Duster since March 2, with the first deliveries set to start in April. Dacia is currently manufacturing approximately 100 Dusters per day but the production capacity will grow if the demand increases. Dacia’s first SUV is the model with which the brand will return on the British market in 2012 after two decades of absence.

The car has three equipping options: Duster, Ambiance and Laureate. The Duster option’s price starts from EUR 12,300 for the 4×4 variant. The Laureate option’s – the top equipping option – price starts from EUR 11,900 for the 1.6-litre, 105 HP, 4×2 engine and EUR 15,600 for the 110 HP diesel engine. With all available equipping options included, Laureate’s maximum final price stands at EUR 17,600. The starting price for a Duster with an 85 HP diesel engine and Laureate equipping option stands at EUR 13,050.

Prost took part in 202 Formula 1 races from 1980 to 1993, winning 51 of them and four world champion titles.
