Ponta keen to change PSD’s corrupt party image

Victor Ponta, leader of the Social Democrat Party, has recently given an interview for Deutsche Welle’s online edition, where he says that ‘PSD’s main trait seems to have been political opportunism, a thing he intends to change in the future. ‘For me Tony Blair and Jose Luis Zapatero are political and party models. If PSD does the good things that the Labour Party did in Britain and the Socialist Party did in Spain and avoids the mistakes our colleagues did there we will have a modern Social-Democracy in Romania in the next years,’ Ponta pointed out.

Asked whether come social aspects in Romania can be changed or improved, Ponta said that it could be done provided we respect our values, something that does not happen now in Romania. ‘We are a society and a country that lost its scale of values. It is the duty of my generation, of the political and cultural representatives to recreate this scale of values in Romania,’ Ponta underlined. Referring to corruption within PSD, Victor Ponta affirmed that this is the misunderstanding of a part of the media and that the party he leads will change that image.
