NGOs rebuke gov’t over draft pension law

Representatives of two non-governmental organizations said yesterday, during a Senate debate over a draft Law on Pensions, organised by pensioners’ federations, that certain provisions the government has included in the draft act are “abuses” or “tricks.”

The most controversial measure rules that the pension point of reference will be calculated based on inflation and the average wage. This will gradually result in the pension point being calculated only based on inflation, NGOs said.

Head of the ‘Foundation for Defence of Citizens against State Abuse’ Oana Florea warned pensioners that they will be “cheated” and explained this calculation will only diminish their incomes.

In his turn, the director of ‘Civil Society for Democracy’ Foundation, Razvan Zamfir said not only pensioners, but the civil society as a whole, are outraged by the new draft law.
