Adriean Videanu points large pension aspirants towards Pillar III

Economy, Trade and Business Environment Minister Adriean Videanu said those who are looking for large pensions should invest into a private pension system, as its public counterpart ‘no longer can support ’ the current structure. Videanu told a press conference in Sibiu Saturday, that ‘somebody in Romania has to take on themselves’ the highly unpopular measures government needs to take during this period, and the Executive is not going to continue with ‘such discrepancies’ existing in both the public pension system and public sector salaries, Mediafax reports. Videanu said the public pension system needs to be rooted in the contribution principle, and those wanting large pensions should turn to the private pension system instead. The economy minister also said this also applies to the public sector where huge salary gaps for similar work levels also need to cease. Videanu explained that economic data lately show ‘the upcoming months will signal the beginning of economic rebound in Romania.’ The minister holds Romania has already entered a ‘re-launching process of industrial production’.
