Lolas Carnival – guild fair traditions

The ‘Petre Tutea’ Cultural Centre yesterday organised the third edition of the Lolas Carnival, in Bucharest’s Historical Centre. The event also featured a Guilds’ Fair, held at the ‘Curtea Veche’ (Old Court) Princely Palace. This was a perfect occasion for awarding the guild box (Laden forttragen) to the new master of guilds, 2010. Next came a ceremony of “casting evil spirits out of the National Bank of Romania, so that the Leu regains health, followed by casting evil spirits out of the Bucharest General Municipality.” The parade on Lipscani Street ended with the hymn of Transilvania – ‘Siebenburger Land des Segens.’ The fair concluded with the Run of Lolas and a ceremony of casting evil spirits away from the Historical Centre.
