The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) is investigating in Romania the awarding of a contract for the Craiova energy complex modernization, worth several tens of millions of euros, Brussels sources told HotNews.ro. OLAF confirms it is looking into possible irregularities, but does not give additional information. The contract in question is for gas desulphurising and was initially won by the Italian subsidiary of French group Alstom Power. The Contestation Settling Committee however disqualified Alstom after the Italian-Chinese-Romanian consortium Idreco-Insigma-Romelectro had challenged the tendering procedure’s results. Idreco-Insigma has been recently mentioned in another fraud scandal in Bulgaria, where an OLAF investigation is also underway. Bulgaria may lose some dozens of millions of euros as well.
