US embassy announces new visa application system

The United States Embassy to Romania yesterday announced the introduction of a new electronic visa application system, Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) and a new application form, DS-160, which all visa applicants will have to fill out as of April 1.

DS-160 is the electronic format to be used by all US temporary resident visa applicants, and, starting April, it will be available in Romanian as well. Visa applicants can upload their photos from their own computers. The DS-160 form replaces previous forms DS-156, DS-157 and DS-158. Once filled out online, the form is sent straight to the consulate for processing, the embassy explained, adding that applicants will only make a copy of the confirmation page, which they will bring with them at the interview.

The embassy said this will save thousands of paper sheets every month. Interviews are scheduled via call centre, and the application charge can be paid at any Romanian branch of Transilvania Bank. The new CEAC system and form DS-160 can be found on the US embassy website and further information can be obtained by e-mail, fax or telephone.
