Train carrying coal derails in Hunedoara

Six carriages of a train that was carrying coal from Petrosani to Simeria derailed yesterday between Crivadea and Merisor localities, Hunedoara County. There were no victims but railway traffic was blocked on one line. ‘Six carriages derailed. According to initial investigations, the train’s mechanic probably did not observe the speed limit,’ the head of Hunedoara’s Transport Police stated.

The Romanian Railway Company (CFR) announced that the freight train belongs to a private transporter (UNIFERTRANS) and underlined that only five carriages derailed.

Constantin Pestrea, director of UNIFERTRANS, has stated for Mediafax that each of the train’s 24 carriages carried 55 tons of coal. He criticized the fact that the railway line in the Jiu Valley is in very poor condition.
