Independents’ party agrees on leaders

MP Catalin Chereches stated that Marian Sarbu will be UNPR’s president, while Gabriel Oprea will be executive president and Cristian Diaconescu honorary president.

‘We will have a very clear statute, a honorary president and a president – Mr. Marian Sarbu,’ Chereches stated, opining that future party president Marian Sarbu is a personality that can represent very well the Romanians’ interests, especially when considering his social expertise. Asked who will be the honorary president, Chereches answered: ‘I believe that if we were to analyze the personalities that are part of the group of independents, Mr. Cristian Diaconescu would be best suited to hold this office. I am convinced that UNPR’s honorary president will have executive prerogatives too, unlike PSD’s honorary president.’

‘We should not forget Mr. Gabriel Oprea either, he will hold an office for sure, maybe that of executive president,’ the independent MP added, being quoted by Mediafax. In his opinion, Neculai Ontanu would be best suited for the party’s secretary general office because he is ‘a man who knows how to organize and could manage that activity.’

The independent MPs filed on Friday within the Bucharest Tribunal a request to have the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) registered. The court will consider the request on May 17.
