Mile Carpenisan posthumously decorated by President Basescu

President Traian Basescu posthumously offered late journalist Mile Carpenisan the National Order ‘Faithful Service’ in Knight Degree.

Late journalist Mile Carpenisan has been posthumously promoted to the rank of sub-lieutenant, as a sign of appreciation for his contribution to the enhancement of Romanian Army’s prestige by correctly and timely informing the public opinion about the soldiers’ feats of arms. According to a Ministry of Defense release, the order was signed yesterday by Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea who added that ‘Mile Carpenisan’s swift departure from this world leaves a huge void in the Romanians’ hearts.’

‘He was a man of high value, a strong and respected voice among the elite of Romanian war correspondents, a journalist that did his noble job with outstanding courage. Through repeated presence in conflict zones alongside Romanian soldiers, he became a veritable brother in arms, a rightful member of the Romanian Army’s great family. I would have liked to pin these epaulettes on his shoulders and to shake his hand as sign of gratitude, appreciation and respect for his work. Unfortunately God called him up much too soon and we pray for his great and kind soul. Sincere condolences to the bereaved family!’ reads the Defense Minister’s release.

At the same time, Timisoara’s deputy mayor Sorin Grindeanu yesterday said he will propose posthumously making Mile Carpenisan the city’s honorary citizen. ‘Mile Carpenisan was a special man and a true professional; I can say he is one of the few journalists who stood out after 1990. I knew him as a journalist, he was my friend too and I profoundly regret his early departure. I believe he deserves to be named Timisoara’s honorary citizen for everything he did, because he is and remains a national value, but also because he represented Timisoara and Banat. I will make this proposal during the Local Council’s meeting next week,’ Sorin Grindeanu stated.

Mile Carpenisan died on Monday afternoon after spending one week in Timisoara’s County Hospital. He was burried yesterday in Timosoara.
