Universitatea Craiova has won three crucial points in its away-game against Rapid, score 1-0, and has managed to get out of the relegation zone. Gangioveanu scored the game’s only goal in stoppage time (92nd minute).
Rapid dominated the first half, scoring twice in the 2nd and 23rd minutes. Nevertheless its goals were canceled because they were scored from offside. Rapid continued to waste goal scoring chances in the second half, with the visitors scoring the winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time following a counter-attack. Gangioveanu’s powerful shot at the far post gave goalkeeper Bornescu no chance. Craiova’s head coach Mark Wotte (Netherlands) admitted that a tie would have accurately reflected things on the ground and added that he dedicates the victory to injured striker Florin Costea. Costea injured his knee the previous leg. “I believe that a tie would have been fairer. We are on the right path but that doesn’t mean we’re clear of relegation. We dedicate this victory to Florin Costea,” Wotte said.
Steaua remains eclipsed
Mihai Stoichita’s team played poorly and with difficulty in its away-game against Pandurii. The game finished with a goalless draw, with both teams having one player sent off (Stromajer, 89th minute; Ovidiu Petre, 63rd minute). Steaua won only one point and seems to fall farther away from the title with each passing leg. International Curtea de Arges secured a goalless draw in its away-game against Poli. The game was important for both teams as they desperately struggle to avoid relegation.
Unirea Alba Iulia defeated Astra Ploiesti on Saturday at home, score 2-1, thanks to the goals scored by Razvan Dalbea (17th minute) and Brazil’s Andre de Sousa (40th minute). Japan’s Takayuki Seto scored for Astra (30th minute). Unirea Alba Iulia’s Dalbea missed a penalty shot in stoppage time after Portugal’s Vitinha brought down Uruguay’s Arias. In another leg 24 game, Otelul Galati defeated Gaz Metan Medias in an away-game on Friday, score 1-0. Sergiu Costin scored the game’s only goal in the 36th minute.
On Sunday evening Gloria Bistrita played against Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt and Unirea Urziceni played against Dinamo. Here are the fixtures scheduled on Monday: FC Timisoara vs. FC Vaslui and FC Brasov vs. CFR Cluj.
