Deloitte: 2010 – crucial year for renewable energy

2010 will be a crucial year for the renewable energy sector, with investors awaiting clarifications from Government on how the relevant investment incentivising law should be applied and with some others having already given up on investing, Deloitte director Alexandru Valeriu Binig said yesterday, according to Mediafax.

‘In my opinion, 2010 will be a crucial year. We expect clarifications on the law promoting renewable energies. In any case, 2010 will be a year when the landscape in the sector will clear up’, Binig, Chief Financial Officer of the Deloitte Energy Consulting and Resources, said during a meeting put together by Musat & Asociatii solicitors company. In his view, some renewable energy production project developers may give up on Romanian projects as electricity transmission capacities may turn out to be insufficient.

Many wing power generation project developers are now contemplating investing in gas-fired production units necessary in balancing the system, while current capacities are insufficient. National Energy Regulator President Petru Lificiu last week said Law no. 220 establishing a system to encourage the generation of power from renewable sources would be adopted before parliament recess this year. Although it was due in 2009, the law is currently inoperable as it has no implementation guidelines.
