Approximately 900 transport police officers will conduct raids, controls and will man checkpoints within railway stations, on trains, in harbors and airports. According to Mediafax, from April 1 to April 6 transport police officers will be on duty in 16 national and international airports, 28 Black Sea and Danube ports, 288 train stations located on routes that include tourist resorts, and 400 trains. The controls will seek to prevent anti-social events, to identify beggars, peddlers, unattended minors and illegal passengers.
Traffic police officers will be on duty during the holidays too. According to ‘Gandul’ daily, thousands of traffic police officers, over 400 stealthy speed radars and 200 regular speed radars will be deployed in order to handle intense traffic on main national roads. Numerous police units will be present on the two highways (DN1 and DN2), as well as on National Road 6. At the same time, on the country’s western border the Romanian police officers will join their Hungarian counterparts in forming a veritable net of speed radars in the areas of Bors, Varsan, Turnu, Nadlac and Cenad. In the south the Romanian officers will team up with their Bulgarian counterparts in the border areas located in the following Counties: Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Calarasi and Constanta.
Overall, over 3,000 traffic police officers will be on duty during the holidays. Romania’s Traffic Police advises the drivers to be extra cautious, to avoid speeding and drinking and to strictly respect the traffic police officers’ indications. At the same time, over 24,000 Internal Affairs Ministry employees will be on duty in order to safeguard public order and safety during the Easter holidays. According to Agerpres, over 10,000 police officers, 5,000 gendarmes, 2,000 border police officers and 7,000 IGSU (General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations) employees will be on duty in urban and rural localities, around religious sites, tourist resorts and recreational areas, being tasked with safeguarding public order and safety and ensuring maximum fluency of cross-border traffic.
