League 1: Fight for title remains fiery

Last week-end the top 7 teams that have only eight points between them in the standings have managed to win their leg 25 games. League leader CFR Cluj (49 points) won its home-side game against Gloria Bistrita thanks to Ysuff Kone’s goal (1-0). Steaua Bucharest won its home-side game against FC Brasov with the same score, thanks to Mihaita Plesan’s early goal. Steaua continues to be third, three points behind CFR Cluj and one point behind FC Vaslui, the latter registering a clear home-side victory against bottom-ranking Unirea Alba Iulia, score 3-0. Alba Iulia’s chances to avoid relegation are dropping with each game, the team now being nine points behind 14th place, the last place that ensures continued presence in League I.

FC Timisoara, Dinamo Bucharest and Unirea Urziceni are in a tie in the standings (45 points) after registering important victories last week-end. Timisoara won its away game against Universitatea Craiova thanks to the late goal scored by Lukas Magera (score 2-1). Unirea Urziceni won its away game against Astra Ploiesti, score 2-0. Dinamo Bucharest won all three points put up for grabs in the game against Gaz Metan Medias (1-0, Marius Alexe).

Rapid Bucharest – 7th place – won its away game against International Curtea de Arges, score 2-1, and trails eight points behind League leader CFR Cluj. Grigorie and Sapunaru scored the goals that sealed Ioan Andone’s first victory as Rapid’s head coach. FC Vaslui head coach Marius Lacatus, who recently turned 46, is a happy coach these days following his team’s categorical win against Unirea Alba Iulia, a result that keeps FC Vaslui second in the standings only two points behind the Leage leader.
