Liberals want Senate panel to probe contracts offered to PDL sponsors

National Liberal Party leader Crin Antonescu announced yesterday at the end of his party’s Permanent Bureau meeting that Liberals will take the necessary steps in order to set up a special investigation commission within the Senate, a commission that would investigate information concerning the connection between Democrat Liberal Party sponsors and public works handled by their companies. PSD leader Victor Ponta supports Antonescu`s decision to set up the special investigation commission within the Senate.

According to Mediafax, Antonescu pointed out that Liberals’ initiative is justified considering that public funds and an unfair competition between companies that seek state contracts are at the heart of the matter. Antonescu added that Liberals’ initiative is part of ‘a wider range of actions’ that PNL will try to initiate.

The PNL leader also said that everyone forgot or feigns forgetting serious, certain and ‘proven things that took part during the EP and presidential election campaigns – forged official reports, frauds that were proven here and there and haven’t been heard since.’ In 2009, a year that saw several election campaigns, PDL received RON 41,241,293 from donations, membership taxes and other sources. According to the list containing the sums obtained by parties from private financing sources in 2009, companies that made important donations to PDL include: Lukoil (RON 143,250), SC Cotroceni Park (RON 126,081), Constructii Unu SA Iasi (RON 100,000), Restaco SRL Suceava (RON 110,000), Lukoil Ro Bucharest (RON 286,500) and GreenbauTehnologie SRL Bucharest (RON 150,000).
