State secretary job cuts, only by election-time – government spokesperson says

The government answered yesterday, through spokeswoman Ioana Muntean, an article posted on the Antena3.ro website referring to the PM allegedly breaking on his promise for each ministry to have no more than two state secretaries on grounds of government saving money.

The spokeswoman said the premier’s statement in the autumn of 2009 strictly applied to the period following the withdrawal from government by the Social Democratic Party (PSD). ‘As you know, state secretary positions are political positions, this government is supported by political parties and the positions are distributed as such,’ Ioana Muntean said, who made the point some ministries merging into one another led to state secretary positions being cut down, with only three ministries having two state secretaries each as of now, with the remaining having between three to six.

In what was dubbed the state secretaries scandal, PM Boc accused television networks Antena 3 and Realitatea TV of misinforming their viewers. Asked whether his request for air time on national television still stands, the PM said: ‘My wish is to inform Romanians about the things this government does. There is plenty of misinformation broadcast by various radio and television stations.’
