Government, ready to pass controversial education law

Government is due to pass the draft education law on Monday, in extraordinary session, then submit it for debate and approval to the Parliament. The draft act was analyzed by the Executive, in a first lecture, on March 17, in a Cabinet meeting held in the city of Iasi, when it was also put on public debate for two weeks. Trade unions from the Education sector repeatedly asked the public debate to be extended for two more weeks, and the Boc Government decided to delay passing the draft law until April 12.

Trade unions challenge several provisions of the Law and blame authorities for failing to consult them in the drafting process.
