Romanian tennis player Victor Hanescu has qualified for the final of ATP tournament in Casablanca, a tournament with total prizes of EUR 398,250, after defeating France’s Florent Serra in the semifinals, agerpres.ro informs. Victor played a great game against the Frenchman. Feeling within his own element on the clay court, the Romanian did not lose a single set, qualifying for his first final this season after 63 minutes, score 6-4, 6-1. This was Hanescu’s first win in his disputes against Serra, following the games he lost in Roland Garros (2008) and Gstaad (2009). Serra, 57th in the ATP standings, won the BCR Open Romania tournament in 2005 and reached the Casablanca tournament final last year. Thanks to this result Hanescu has won a check for EUR 37,900 and 150 ATP points. If he wins the tournament he will gain a check for EUR 72,150 and 250 ATP points. Victor Hanescu has won only one ATP tournament (Gstaad, 2008) and has lost two finals (Bucharest, 2007; Stuttgart, 2009). In the other semifinal Wawrinka defeated Italy’s Potito Starace, score 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Hanescu defeated Wawrinka (23rd in ATP standings) twice – in 2004 in the Davis Cup and in 2008 in the semifinals of the Gstaad tournament.
Tecau/Lindstedt win tournament
Romania’ Horia Tecau and Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt (top seeds 3) have won on Saturday the final of the doubles event at the Casablanca tournament in Morocco, a tournament with total prizes of EUR 450,000, the competition’s official website informs.
Tecau and Lindstedt defeated India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, score 6-2, 3-6, 10-7. Thanks to this result the Romanian and the Swede won a check for EUR 21,650 and 250 ATP points.
