The NexT International Film Festival continues the tradition initiated in the first edition, bringing major filmmakers face to face with the audience of the most important short and medium-length film festival in Romania, during the NexT Seminars. Nine meetings with reputed, local and foreign, professionals will take place in the Carturesti Attic, from Wednesday, April 14, to Saturday, April 17. From direction and sound design, to 3D graphics, production, screenwriting and film critique, young filmmakers or film lovers are invited to Carturesti every morning, during NexT, to meet some of the most important guests of the festival. Special guests Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto; American producer Jim Stark, member in the jury of the festival; Israeli director Elad Keidan, winner of the 2009 NexT trophy; screenwriter Razvan Radulescu; Florin Serban, the director of Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier/ If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle; film critic Ronald Bergan – these are only a few of the people that the NexT audiences may meet and discuss with. The seminar to be presented by Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto – Making of Dansul Stelelor/ Dance of Stars, written and directed by the visual artist, painter and designer Danielle de Picciotto, to a musical score signed by the composer and musician Alexander Hacke. The two will discuss this film and their career with those present in the seminar.
Screenwriter Razvan Radulescu will open the series of seminars on Thursday, April 15, at Carturesti Attic. Starting at 10:30, the screenwriting seminar “Less is more. The reinsertion of reality into fiction” brings before the NexT audience one of the most famous and widely acknowledged Romanian screenwriters, the man behind feature films such as Moartea domnului Lazarescu/ The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, Hartia va fi albastra/ The Paper Will Be Blue and Boogie, who will speak about the art and craft of writing for cinema. Producer Jim Stark, member of the 2010 NexT jury, is the protagonist of the seminar “Indie Film Production in a Commercial World” – taking place on Thursday, April 15, at 12:30. A close collaborator of Jim Jarmusch, together with whom he produced cult-movies such as Stranger than Paradise, Night on Earth and Coffee and Cigarettes, Stark will explain more in-depth the conditions in which an independent producer works in an ultra-commercial system. An absolute first in the series of NexT seminars is the film critique seminar “The (Mis)Adventures of an Author of Film Books”, to be given on Friday, April 16, from 10:30, by the well-known journalist, film critic and historian Ronald Bergen, correspondent, among others, with the prestigious London daily The Guardian, author of several books on film history and theory, former vice-chairman of FIPRESCI (The International Federation of Film Critics) and reader at the Sorbonne, the British Institute in Paris, University of Lille and Florida International University of Miami. The seminar on film direction titled “Taking the Step from Short to Feature Film”, to take place on Saturday, April 17, 2010, from 12:00, brings before the NexT audience three directors “on the rise”: Joe Lawlor, Elad Keidan and Florin Serban.
