Tennis: Hanescu loses final in Casablanca

Romanian tennis player Victor Hanescu lost the final against Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka despite winning both games that the two played before. The tournament in Casablanca had total prizes of EUR 398,250.

Wawrinka won the first set in 30 minutes, score 6-2, showing a perfect form. In the second set the Swiss player served for game point at the score of 5-1, with Hanescu showing signs of “recovery.” Hanescu won his first break then won on his serve. Hanescu had two break points while Wawrinka was serving at the score of 5-3. Unfortunately he won none of them, with the Swiss winning the second set (6-3) and his second ATP title. Hanescu wasted the chance of adding another ATP title to the only one in his career (Gstaad, 2008).

Disappointed after his defeat, Hanescu said: “It is true I was strong both mentally and technically throughout the tournament but in the final my opponent was more focused and efficient. He hindered my game and did not give me the chance to use my favorite shots. I congratulate him for the result.” The two will play again, this time in the opening round of the tournament in Monte Carlo, a tournament with total prizes of EUR 2,227,500.
