Basescu: Israeli-Palestinian political dialogue should be resumed

President Traian Basescu Wednesday night told Israeli Deputy Prime-Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman that Romania supports resumption of Israeli-Palestinian political dialogue. A press release from the president’s office says talks between the two officials focused on bilateral agenda issues and Middle East peace process developments. At the same time, Basescu expressed his concern about the development of the Iranian nuclear programme in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. The head of state spoke about Romania’s support for deeper EU-Israel relations starting from the premise that development of cooperation between the Union and its partners ought to be exclusively based on their respective individual performances. The interlocutors said both countries aimed to expand bilateral co-operation at economic level.

During separate talks with Lieberman, PM Emil Boc made an invitation to Israeli businesses to come and invest in Romania. According to the Government Press Office, Boc backed his invitation with the argument that Israeli investors could take the advantages generated by an economic context where Romania would be in a position to attract up to EUR 33 bln until 2013.
