Botosani chief police officer commits suicide

A police officer with the Botosani Police County Inspectorate shot himself dead with his assigned gun in the inspectorate’s interior yard. By the time the medical crew arrived at the scene, the man had been dead, Mediafax reports. Botosani County Police Chief Viorel Serbanoiu said the officer, 42-year-old Cristi Vieru, had been found shot dead in the head. He was chief inspector with the Botosani Police unit’s Analysis and Synthesis Department.

He was married with two children. His being a police officer made him wear a gun on him at all times, which makes the suicide presumption even stronger. The investigation into his death is yet to say why he chose to take his own life.

Several suicide cases have been reported among Romanian police over the past few years, most of them love-related.

The last such case regarded a Pitesti police officer found dead in his apartment in February this year.

He too killed himself with his assigned gun. Late last year, a 36-year-ol Iasi police officer put a bullet into his head. Also in December of last year, a police agent, aged 25, at Precinct no 12 in Bucharest shot dead his former lover only to kill himself afterwards Both of them died at the hospital.
