Basescu vs. Patriciu lawsuit- postponed for June 16

The Bucharest District 1 Court ruled to postpone for June 16 the lawsuit in which President Traian Basescu seeks compensation from businessman Dinu Patriciu and Gardianul daily for airing a short movie that shows Basescu hitting a child, Agerpres reports. The judges admitted a procedural flaw about calling in court the Gardianul newspaper, which became insolvent in February. The judges postponed the trial, so the judicial liquidator of the newspaper can be summoned in court and Traian Basescu’s lawyer to acknowledge the objection filed by the lawyer of businessman Dinu Patriciu.

Also yesterday, President Basescu sued PSD Deputy Mugurel Surupaceanu for a symbolic compensation of RON 1, because he said in a press conference on February 14 that the Government and Presidency condone and support the light drugs consumption. The Bucharest District 5 Tribunal slated the trial for September 29. In the complaint filed on March 31, Basescu seeks a symbolic compensation of RON 1 and demands the court verdict to be run by the media channels that published Surupaceanu’s statement.
