Independent MPs’ party, legally registered

Magistrates of the Bucharest Tribunal have admitted on Tuesday independent MPs’ request to have their new party – the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) – registered. According to Senator Liviu Campanu, UNPR will be a centre-left party. According to the senator, independents have already rented two buildings in Bucharest, one set to be the party’s central headquarters and the other the headquarters of its Bucharest branch.

According to Campanu, the leadership will consist of the following offices: a president, an executive president, a general secretary, eight vice-presidents and an honourary president. No decision has been taken on who will fill them in. Campanu added that the party’s doctrine has already been established, while its statute and programme are still under construction. The party’s symbol will consist of its initials written on a shield placed in front of an eagle holding a cross in its beak.

“The party’s colours will be white and red, the colors of European socialists. Red and white are also the colours with which Obama won the US elections and I hope they will be auspicious,” the independent senator added.
