Arctic reports 35.3 pc market share in 2009

The producer of the Arctic and Beko home appliance brands sold on the local market – Arctic – in 2009 had a market share of 35.3 per cent, larger by 4 per cent compared with the previous year, according to a press release. Arctic reports 2009 turnover of EUR 186 M, and total sales volume of more than 1.4 M units, but smaller by 8 per cent compared with 2008. Approximately 1.1 M products sold by Arctic were refrigerating equipment. Export sales were up by 5 per cent to 835,000 units last year compared with 793,000 units in 2008. As for the local market, although it suffered a dramatic volume fall by 38 per cent (according to the GFK – Temax survey), Arctic’s sales in Romania only decreased by 22 per cent,

‘(…) We were one of the few companies in Romania that did not lay off staff in 2009 or operated employees’ benefit cuts. (…) Increasing export remains one of our company’s primary lines of growth in 2010. currently, the volume of exported units represents more than 70 per cent of the total sales from our local production and we anticipate growth potential in this particular segment also in the future’, Arctic General Manager Monica Iavorschi states. Arctic was focused on mature, West-European markets that had begun showing signs of recovery as early as the end of 2008.
