Lucian Bute returns to Romania

The world’s IBF super-middleweight champion wants his next bout to be organised in the country.

“I badly want to box at home,” Lucian Bute stated yesterday on his return home after his brilliant victory against Edison Miranda. “It would be for the first time when HBO comes to Romania and that would do a lot of good for the country’s image,” ‘Mister KO’ added. Bute has successfully defended the IBF super-middleweight belt he won in October 2007 against five contenders.

“It was a very significant opportunity for me to be seen in America thanks to HBO. They said that they want to stand by my side during my next bout, irrespective of location and opponent. I am always happy to return home; I do this after every bout. A fraction of a second can ruin your career and against Miranda I wanted to avoid that,” Bute stated.

“I worked a lot and the results of 15 years of work are only now showing. I want my next bout to be organized in Romania. I believe the moment has come and the folks at Interbox told me they want to come here for me. HBO said the same, they want to come here. It would be the first time HBO comes to Romania. But, I repeat, this is out of my hands. I badly want this event to take place in Romania,” the IBF world title holder said. Bute successfully defended his title five times. In his latest bout (April 17, 2010) Bute crushed Columbia’s Miranda after only three rounds. It was Bute’s 21st KO.
