PSD out of sync with unions over May Day protest actions

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) failed to come to an agreement with unions over party-hoped joint May Day protest actions, as established at the National Executive Committee meeting in Ramnicu Valcea three weeks ago, PSD sources told Mediafax yesterday, adding the party would hold May Day protest actions ‘without forcemeat small broiled sausages and beer’, The actions will take place, among others, in Bistrita, Pitesti and the Jiu Valley town of Lupeni, with PSD President Victor Ponta due to attend the events. Bucharest will also witness PSD-organized protest actions, under a programme set by Bucharest PSD Organization President Marian Vanghelie. The president of CNSLR Fratia union said, April 15, he would not hold May Day protests as he would not ‘trail’ parties. Cartel Alfa President Bogdan Hossu too said the members of the union confederation of which he is a leader would not organize any May Day protest. The president of the National Trade Union Bloc, Dumitru Costin, told Mediafax he would not attend the PSD-announced actions and was waiting for Social-Democrat President Victor Ponta to apologize for offences against trade unionists lately. According to sources quoted by Mediafax, some of the Social- Democrats have yesterday voiced criticism addressed to party leader Victor Ponta and secretary general Liviu Dragnea for failing syndicate talks.
