The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) decided on Monday evening that the appeal filed by George Becali’s lawyers against the decision taken by the ICCJ’s Penal Office is admissible and set June 14 as the date of its trial. The Penal Office rejected Becali’s request that the money confiscated by investigators in the ‘Cash Bag’ file be returned. Asked by journalists what he wants to do with the approximately EUR 1.7 M that prosecutors confiscated, Becali refused to give details but said that he trusts the ICCJ decision because the panel of judges consists of ‘saints.’ “I am content because judges are trying to do justice, because you can’t talk about ‘bribery’ and ‘corruption’ in the private system in the absence of a plaintiff. Secondly, offering a prize is one thing and bribery is another. And that’s all,” Becali said.
