SACEUR head on Bucharest visit

The head of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), Admiral James G. Stavridis, was on an official visit to Bucharest yesterday, where he met with several Romanian officials, including Defence Minister Gabriel Oprea and President Traian Basescu. Talks between Stavridis and Oprea focused on NATO-led military operations and the Romanian Army’s contributions to these missions, according to a press release from the Defence Ministry. Stavridis met with Basescu at Cotroceni Palace yesterday and said he was honoure to be in the presence of a “ship commander.” He also congratulated the head of state for having renewed his sailor licence. The head of state said he did it in order to prove “has an alternative” and that he is not a politician who would be left without a job if he loses elections.
