Missing climber found dead in Fagaras

The 41-year old lady climber from Cluj who had been reported missing in the Fagaras Mountains crest area has been found dead in a precipice, Arges Salvamont head Ion Sanduliu informed yesterday. According to him, the corpse was found in a 70 m deep precipice situated at an altitude of 2,400 m. Mountain rescuers say she might have been caught by an avalanche and thrown from the crest down the steep. Anda Goleanu from Cluj-Napoca tried to follow a crest track crossing over the Fagaras Mountains from Arges County to Sibiu County. She went on her own on Friday. When realising he could not contact her on her mobile, her partner reported her missing.

Arges Salvamont head says the area where the victim went missing is an exceptionally dangerous one even for experienced climbers, and the risk of avalanche is also very big at this time of the year.
