Senate Speaker invites BNR governor and Fin Min to bureau meeting

Senate Speaker Mircea Geoana yesterday sent an invitation to the Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) and the finance minister to attend a meeting of the Senate Standing Bureau aimed at examining the current economic situation amid the latest round of talks with delegates of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

‘The meeting will look into the present economic situation, in the context of the new discussions with IMF officials, the risks and opportunities at this moment and the solution likely to redress the economy,’ the release reads.

According to the source quoted, the invitation follows Tuesday’s decision by the Senate Standing Bureau. The invitation is aimed at the ‘public opinion being better informed and overcoming certain concerns increasingly voiced in the Romanian society.’ The release however does not mention the date of the meeting where the two officials have been invited.
