Blockbusters hitting the screens

After going through the newest Robin Hood treatment from director Ridley Scott and Australian star Russel Crowe, May brings on screens one of the most eagerly anticipated movies this year: “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” kicking off on May 28. Adapted for the screen from a famous computer game, this will be the vehicle making of Oscar nominee Jake Gylenhaal a bona fide action hero.

June will kick off in force with Toy Story 3, another instalment in the successful Disney computer animated franchise. The film hits Bucharest screens on June 18.

For screening hoards of teenage fans, the third film in the Twilight series will be released early July and will star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively. Bucharest release date is set for July 2.

Predators is an upcoming 2010 science fiction, action and horror film directed by Nimród Antal, and starring Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne, set to create summer sensation. Shrek Forever After, the final instalment in the children beloved franchise will hit the screens on July 9.

If you were missing Tom Cruise, get ready for July 23, when he will be teaming up with Cameron Diaz for a highly anticipated action comedy “Knight and Day.”

But perhaps the most buzzed about and the one that will probably leave popcorn chewers befuddled is signed by one of the most intelligent directors ever, Chris Nolan. “Inception” is a psycho-thriller like no other, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio. Action takes place within the vast architecture of the human mind, and most of the kicks will come from dreams. Not even the all-star cast did get the film message in its entirety, so expect multiple viewings to make sense of it all.

Director Christopher Nolan has described the film as being “about the world of dreams and the interior of the human mind. It tells the story of Cobb, an agent who has a team of people who have access to a technology that allows them to enter people’s minds through their dreams”. The cast features a wonderful lineup of actors, beside DiCaprio: Joseph Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy. In Bucharest, Inception will open on July 30.

Other blockbusters include M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender” on August 6 and Philip Noyce’s action thriller “Salt” featuring Angelina Jolie, also on August 6.
