Neagu, “World’s best Rookie of the Year 2009”

For the first time ever the IHF will hand over a new award – the award for the World’s Best Rookies of the Year. An IHF expert jury has decided: The Romanian Cristina Neagu and the German Steffen Fäth are the first award winners, they are the World’s Best Rookies of the Year 2009, according to ihf.info. The Romanian left back, born on 26th of August 1988, was only 18 years old, when she started in the first Romanian league and has played – despite of her young age – even 72 international matches for the Romanian women’s national team (and scored 266 goals). Radu Voina, Neagu’s coach on club level and in the national team, says about her: “When she goes on like she did until now, she will be one of the world’s best players. She’s still young and improves from day to day. She’s the leader of our younger players, and she will become our boss of our team in future.”
