League I: Dinamo qualifies for Europa League

Dinamo drew at home against Astra Ploiesti on Sunday evening (3-3) and secured the 6th place, having a 4-point lead over Rapid Bucharest with one leg to go before the end of the season. Dinamo has thus qualified for the Europa League. Dinamo took a two-goal lead only 12 minutes into the game, capitalizing on the errors made by Astra’s goalkeeper. Scarlatache scored in the 10th minute with Bratu later converting a penalty kick won by Miron. Astra managed to reduce the goal difference ahead of the half time break thanks to Vadrariu (30th minute). Three minutes into the second half Dinamo’s defence was caught wrong-footed and Takayuki equalized. Vadrariu put Astra ahead in the 76th minute but Adrian Cristea equalized for Dinamo 10 minutes before the final whistle.

Sapunaru’s last-minute penalty kick gave Rapid a draw in its game against Brasov (1-1) with the Court of Arbitration for Sports remaining Rapid’s last chance to qualify for Europa League. Mihai Roman took advantage of an error in Rapid’s defence and opened the score in the 26th minute. Rapid’s Raduta was sent off in the 86th minute, the player seeing the red card after a fault against Ezequias. Rapid’s players protested and the tension rose to fever pitch in Brasov. In the third minute of stoppage time Mihai Roman played the ball with his hand in his own box and Sapunaru converted the penalty kick that gave Rapid one point at the end of a heated game in which the referee showed 11 yellow and 2 red cards.

Steaua won its home-side game against Universitatea Craiova, score 2-0. Arman Karamian scored both goals, the result leaving Craiova just 2 points above the relegation zone. Steaua pressured Craiova early in the game, chalking up two opportunities in the first 15 minutes. Arman Karamian’s second-half goals gave Steaua the win. In the 69th minute Surdu’s high ball from the left flank found Karamian unmarked, the Armenian player scoring his first goal. Karamian stood out in the following minutes too but his shots went wide. In the 78th minute Bogdan Stancu shook the crossbar, with Karamian heading in the rebound.
