Bute to fight Jesse Brinkley, IBF rules

Romanian boxer Lucian Bute, IBF Super Middleweight champion, will have to fight against American Jesse Brinkley as IBF has ruled Brinkley as official challenger for the title.

IBF officials on Tuesday informed the Romanian boxer, Interbox boxing club and the Romanian Boxing Federation (FRB) about the decision, ‘Evenimentul zilei’ reports. The information was released yesterday by FRB head Rudel Obreja.

The decision cancels FBR plans to organise a bout for Bute in Romania in July. Brinkley is 33 and is ranked ninth in the hierarchy of IBF Super Middleweight table. He fought 40 times, has 35 victories (22 by KO) and five defeats (two by KO). The bout will probably take place in Canada or in the US.

On November 29, 2009, Lucian Bute scored a fourth-round KO over Librado Andrade at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, Canada. Bute retained his IBF super middleweight title with the victory and is ready to unite the title. On April 17, 2010, Bute stopped Edison Miranda at 1:22 of the third round to retain his IBF super middleweight title in Montreal. The result was a technical knockout.
