At least 60,000 new jobs have been created in ministries alone between 2005 and 2009, while layoffs amounted to no more than a few hundreds. With nearly 50,000 employee positions during the said interval, the Ministry of Administration of Interior is the absolute champion in this department, according to ‘Ziarul Financiar’ daily, and 2010 is no exception. The Ministry of Development and Tourism, a merged entity, has 865 positions on its payroll this year, which means despite the ongoing crisis, the organizational chart has expanded to include nearly 60 more positions, and not trimmed down as expected. Agriculture Ministry expanded its job diagram by 4,444 posts between 2005 and 2009, which resulted in employee spending going up from EUR 31.5 M to EUR 125 M in the period concerned. Finance Ministry also joins the league of ministries that saw their organizational chart shooting up, with 6,428 more positions on its payroll in 2009, from 2005, with corresponding employee spending up from EUR 97 M to EUR 252 M in the interval concerned.
